Welcome to my brand-spankin’-new website and BLOG!
After 10+ years, I finally bit the bullet (as they say) and launched a new and FANCY (as my daughter says) platform for my work. It feels like a long time coming and a new era for my both my photography work and my writing life.
I’ve been a professional photographer for over a decade now. Like so many female photographers, I decided to make this a professional gig after becoming a mother. When my second daughter was born in 2011, I made the choice to leave my job as an elementary school teacher to be a full-time mom. I quickly realized that while I loved being a mom, I needed to be other things besides just mom, too. So I launched what was then called Junebug Photography.
Fast forward twelve years and I am now Prita McKenna Photography (I rebranded back in 2017) and have a total of four kids. I’ve come a long way. No longer just a hobbyist, this is now a viable, income producing business and I couldn’t be prouder of it. It is truly one of my greatest life accomplishments so far.
Next year, my youngest will head off to school full time and for the first time in 15 years, I won’t have a kiddo at home with me. It will be a bittersweet transition but I am ready. This website and blog is the first step in what feels like a new chapter. I have lofty goals for myself in the coming months and year. I’ll be officially launching the fine art school portrait side of my business and I hope to branch out into branding work for individuals and businesses alike. I am enrolled in a writing course this spring and I’m hoping to learn more about using studio/artificial lighting in my future work.
